"I am a fine artist who experiments in painting and mixed media. My practice employs acts of distortion through portrait painting. Through various process painting approaches and brushwork, the resulting facture negotiates altered states of identities and personality. The deconstructed and fragmented visual constructions negotiate portraiture through unfamiliar and abstract visual states. Artists such as Adrian Ghenie, Francis Bacon, Jenny Saville, Frank Auerbach, Henrietta Harris, Lucy Stopford, Cesar Biojo have inspired my practice. When painting a person, I explore their personality, emotion and atmosphere combined and heightened through the medium of paint, activating new visual interrogations. Through this approach my language extends across various genres of painting and is open to interpretation. On one hand the quasi pixelated or smeared elements of the paint handling may momentarily identify with the digital though equally are entangled within acts of human agency."
