"My art practice always responds to my surroundings, with the current series responding to an experience of a frequently taken walk in the Yorkshire dales. The work utilises the idea of building up layers of varied materials, whilst mimicking, and over exaggerating, the natural lines and sections found in a landscape. Experimenting with a large range materials is fundamental to my practice, however all of the paintings focus around the idea of taking natural matter from the landscape and applying it to the works. The work portrays a hands on approach to applying texture and to the process of mark-making, playing on the method of manipulating surfaces in order to develop a dystopian, 3-dimensional feel to the work."
