"My work addresses one of the most important yet perennially ignored youth cultures within North East England, Newcastle. It is a ‘sound’ associated and imbedded with working class society within Newcastle, a form of Spanish techno called ‘Makina’ otherwise known as ‘New Monkey’. The show ‘New Monkey’ is a selection of paintings made from fragments of found photography from 2004, taken at a British nightclub in North East England. A venue also named after the genre itself, The New Monkey Club became a rite of passage for many young youths in Newcastle, it was a community open to them every Saturday night. The paintings within the show look strongly into the common link between class and taste, all the while commenting on the importance of the music that has built a platform for self-expression. "
